Things are going really well at camp. We have made it half way through and things are running smoothly. Here is a typical day at camp.
6:30 Wake up and get ready for the day.
7:00 Devotion and meeting time for American teachers. We take time every morning to focus on our purpose and talk about the upcoming day. Then we are off to our classrooms to do any preparations we have for the day.
8:00 Breakfast in the cafeteria. We usually are greeted by the students on the way to the cafeteria. They are always excited to see us.
8:45 Morning Devotion with the whole camp. We sing songs and listen to a lesson taught by Mr. Sievert. This is a great way to start the day and helps us focus on what we are going to learn.
9:20 - 4:40 During the day we are hard at work teaching our classes with a break in the middle for lunch.
Rio and Robert teach NT stories.
Megan and Libby teach OT stories.
Jennie, Jennifer, and Melanie teach Art.
Jeremy and Jacob teach Science.
Crystal and Ben teach Drama.
Kara and Joe teach Team Building.
Emily L and Ian teach Outdoor Games.
Karissa and Emily M teach Music.
4:40 When we are done teaching we take time to reflect on the day and journal about the events of the day and the purpose for our being over here. We are all growing through this experience and are grateful for this opportunity.
5:30 We go to dinner and then get back together again with the kids for evening entertainment at 7:00.
Tonight their is a basketball tournament and a Pictionary tournament. The students have been forming their teams and choosing American teachers to join them. There will also be a time for baking chocolate chip cookies, something most Chinese children have never done before.
Our evenings wrap up with some free time before we get to bed around 10:00.
It is a lot of work, but it is very rewarding. We certainly enjoy being here as much as the children enjoy having us here with them.
